According to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Brazil, the cargo throughput of Santos Port of Brazil increased steadily in 2025, and China continued to be the largest trading partner of the port, accounting for nearly 30% of its total import and export volume.
According to Brazil’s “Please Read” report on January 19, in 2025, Santos Port’s annual cargo throughput reached 186.4 million tons, up 3.6% year-on-year. Among them, container throughput hit a record high of 5.9 million TEUs (62.3 million tons by weight), maintaining steady growth.
From the perspective of the main cargo structure, the solid bulk cargo throughput reached 94.5 million tons. Among them, soybean and pulp throughput growth is particularly prominent, with year-on-year growth of 18.9% and 21.5% respectively, showing strong export momentum of Brazilian agricultural and forestry products. On the other hand, the annual throughput of sugar, corn and liquid bulk decreased by 10.8%, 4.6% and 6.3% respectively.
In terms of imports and exports, the port’s exports increased by 4.6% year-on-year, while imports remained stable. China continued to maintain its position as the largest trading partner, accounting for 29.6% of the port’s total imports and exports.
The head of the port authority said that these achievements not only reflect the resilience of port operations and the accuracy of investment direction, but also confirm Brazil’s continued increase in activity in the global trading system.
